Community Development

Financial Literacy

Helping educate our communities

Old National recognizes the importance of financial education. Improved financial knowledge leads to a better future for individuals and families and stronger communities for all of us.

That’s why we provide a variety of financial education programs for all ages. From Old National’s own Real Life Finance presentations to programs offered in cooperation with the Federal Reserve, Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), American Bankers Association and Freddie Mac, we offer many resources. We can make presentations or direct you to curriculum for your own use. Here are a few of the resources we offer:

CreditSmart

Old National partners with Freddie Mac to offer CreditSmart, a comprehensive consumer financial literacy program. CreditSmart provides a 12-module curriculum to be used by community organizations. Participants learn to build and maintain better credit, make sound financial decisions and understand the steps to responsible homeownership.

Money Smart

Old National also provides financial education through the FDIC Money Smart program. This 10-module adult financial education program covers topics such as money management, saving, handling credit, home ownership and basic financial services. The curriculum is offered in two versions: an instructor-led version for those teaching financial education and as a computer-based program for individuals.

For youth ages 12-20, Money Smart also offers a curriculum to teach young adults the basics of handling money. This instructor-led version includes eight modules with topics such as “Borrowing Basics,” “Setting Financial Goals” and “Paying for College and Cars.”

Realityapolis

Jointly sponsored by Old National Bank and the Girl Scouts, Realityapolis is an interactive, hands-on game that helps middle schoolers develop financial knowledge in a FUN way. Realityapolis players draw cards to determine their job, income, marital status, family size and more. They then work their way through Realityapolis, making financial decisions as they buy a car and home, visit the grocery, pay for car insurance, select a wardrobe and much more. Visit our Realityapolis page and find out how you can provide this powerful learning experience (at no cost) for young people in your school, church or youth organization.
