Champion for Community
Diana Gromley, Northwest Region
Working to strengthen families and children
Because she wanted to make a difference for the less fortunate families of Tippecanoe County, Banking Center Manager Diana Gromley became involved with Bauer Family Resources a little over five years ago. Bauer assists families with limited resources, who seek guidance and opportunities to improve the quality of life for their children. Through three divisions, Bauer Early Care and Education, Bauer Community Center and Bauer Counseling, the nonprofit organization served more than 10,000 families last year.
Diana has been a board member throughout her time as a Bauer volunteer, and in 2011-2012 she was nominated board president. She has also served as executive committee chair and has co-chaired many other committees. Drawing upon her financial background, Diana has also been able to assist Bauer clients on a more personal level. She presents financial education workshops on topics such as credit, the importance of credit, how to repair credit, and how to build credit along with budgeting. Says Diana, “Teaching and coaching folks in need or willing to change their ways is exactly what I thrive on.”
About her volunteer efforts Diana comments, “I have a John Quincy Adams quote hanging in my office that says: If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader. I believe everyone can accomplish whatever they want, as long as they have someone who can lead them in the right direction.” Diana strives to be such a leader.
She adds, “You never know how much you affect the lives of others, until you have that one person say ‘thank you.’ Those words make it worth the time and effort it takes to be a volunteer and make you want to do it over and over again.”
