What is Realityapolis?
How does it work?Realityapolis is set up like a real town, with stations that represent a bank, auto dealer, grocery, spa and other situations that mirror everyday life. (There's even a station for the IRS!) The stations are manned by adult volunteers who play the parts of the "workers" at each one. "Players" draw cards that describe their own lives – their job, marital status, number of children and more. Then, players begin to work their way through Realityapolis to see how to manage their "income" and finances to optimize their life styles. "Realityapolis is a real finance eye-opener for young people," said Aimee Stachura, Girl Scout staffer in charge of scheduling the experience for groups. "Kids are absolutely amazed at what it takes to buy a house or car insurance or purchase day care for their children. And, their eyes are opened about what kind of income it takes to do some of the things they want to do." Who can benefit? You can schedule this life-changing opportunity to benefit the youth at your church, organization or school. Realityapolis has been created for young people in grades 6, 7 or 8. |
