How the Old National Bank Foundation Funds Mental Health Initiatives

Old National has always focused on strengthening and supporting the communities we serve. In 2025, we invested over $4.2 million in our communities via grants to 275 organizations, many in the mental health initiatives category.

“In 2025, the Old National Bank Foundation focused on what it takes to create lasting change,” said Old National Bank Foundation President Joe Kiser. “This includes stable housing, access to economic opportunity and the tools people need to build financial security. By investing alongside trusted community partners, we’re helping move families and neighborhoods from resilience to real, long‑term progress.”

In 2025, 98% of all ONB Foundation grant funding supported CRA-eligible initiatives, and 72% of grants served underrepresented communities.

Here are just a handful of mental health initiatives funded in 2025 through our foundation:

Aspire Indiana Health – Indianapolis, Indiana

The Employment Barrier Busting Fund provides timely assistance to individuals facing challenges, including mental illness and substance use disorders, by covering essential costs such as transportation, uniforms, and other early job‑entry needs. These supports help prevent setbacks during the critical transition into employment, improving both job retention and personal stability. By reducing financial strain during a vulnerable period, the initiative promotes improved health outcomes and stronger long‑term workforce success.

Bloomington Health Foundation – Bloomington, Indiana

ONB Foundation support strengthens Bloomington Health Foundation’s Peer Navigator model, which helps individuals in mental health recovery or returning from incarceration navigate complex housing, healthcare, and employment systems. Peer Navigators offer lived‑experience mentorship, emotional support, and practical guidance to reduce crises and reinforce stability during reintegration. This personalized support model builds trust, enhances self‑sufficiency, and contributes to safer, healthier communities.

Institute for Nonviolence Chicago – Chicago, Illinois

Our investment supports Nonviolence Chicago’s trauma‑informed workforce development programming for individuals at the highest risk of gun violence, combining job readiness training with social‑emotional learning, nonviolence principles, and consistent mentorship. Participants receive both practical employment skills and healing‑centered supports that strengthen resilience and reduce harm. By pairing economic opportunity with restorative practices, the program advances public safety and long‑term community well‑being.
