Old National Bank: Supporting Spanish-Speaking and Latino Clients Through Accessible Banking

Hispanic Heritage Month, Sept. 15-Oct. 15, is a time for celebration, reflection, and recognition of the contributions of Hispanic and Latino Americans to the United States, honoring the rich history, culture, and achievements of the Hispanic community. This year’s theme is “Pioneers of Change: Shaping the Future Together,” which emphasizes the role of Hispanic Americans in driving progress and innovation.

As of July 1, 2024, estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau place the Hispanic and Latino population in the United States at approximately 68.1 million people, making up roughly 20% of the total U.S. population. It is the second-largest racial or ethnic group in the nation after non-Hispanic white Americans.

At Old National Bank, serving clients means understanding the unique needs of the communities where they live and work. As Latino populations continue to grow across the Midwest, Old National has expanded programs, services, and outreach efforts designed to make banking more accessible, understandable, and welcoming for Spanish-speaking customers.

Reducing barriers, providing financial education

One of the most important ways Old National supports Latino clients is by reducing language barriers. Old National has enhanced Spanish-language capabilities within its digital banking platforms and Client Care Center, making it easier for customers to manage accounts, access information, and receive assistance in their preferred language. In addition, bilingual team members in select banking centers provide personalized guidance to help clients navigate financial decisions with confidence.

Financial education is another key focus. Through Spanish-language resources, community workshops, and the bank’s “Dinero Inteligente” educational video series, Old National provides practical information on budgeting, saving, credit management, debt reduction, and other financial wellness topics. These efforts help empower individuals and families to make informed financial decisions and build long-term financial stability.

More Spanish-tailored products and programs

Old National has also introduced products and programs designed to expand financial access. Old National has broadened the types of identification accepted when opening accounts, helping remove obstacles that some customers may face when establishing banking relationships.

Additionally, Old National launched an ITIN Home Loan Pilot Program1 to help eligible borrowers who do not have a Social Security number pursue homeownership opportunities. The bank’s Empowerment Small Business Loan Program2 also works to improve access to capital for underserved entrepreneurs, including many Latino-owned businesses.
